OPEN WIDE THE BLACK BOX OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

We all know something about Artificial Intelligence since we are confronted with it daily, but its functioning may seem inaccessible, even magical. Well no, we can open the black box, its main functions are even explicable in everyday language!

Teaching AI begins with learning how to program. It is essential to understand that a computer only executes sequences of instructions that are given to it, and to master the logic of these instructions. Many technical resources exist for this purpose.

Machine Learning changes the paradigm: we no longer write instructions for a program, we train a model with training data! New resources allow you to become familiar with this new concept and to understand the importance of the quantity and quality of data.

But the initial question remains: how does it work? To really demystify Artificial Intelligence, we have to get into the learning algorithms, and thus show how, from instructions, we can go as far as making programs capable of adapting to data!

AI, A BLACK BOX?

AI is not magic, nor inaccessible: we can open the black box!

PROGRAMMING & INSTRUCTIONS

Teaching AI presupposes knowledge on instruction programming.

LEARNING FROM DATA

With Machine Learning the new way to “program” is to train a system with data!

LEARNING ALGORITHMS

The black box is wide opened once we present the algorithms.

THE HUMANS BEHIND THE ROBOT

Founder and Chief Scientific Officer

Thomas Deneux

Thomas Deneux is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and holds a PhD in Computer Vision. For the past ten years, he has been a Research Engineer at CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) within the Paris-Saclay Institute of Neuroscience, where he pursues research in neurorobotics, and founded the Learning Robots start-up in May 2020. He is convinced of the many challenges that AI represents for society, and of the ability of young people to self-appropriate both its technical and societal aspects.

Chief Operating Officer

Axel Haentjens

Axel Haentjens is a graduate of the Ecole Centrale de Paris, with 25 years of experience in the Orange Group in Strategy, Sales, Marketing and Communications. He launched the “One Cloud” project in the Orange Group in the early 2010s and until 2019 is the Director of Strategic Partnerships in the field of data management, cloud and cyber defense. He brings to Learning Robots his experience in corporate strategy, strategic partnerships, and international business.

President

Hélène Grelier

Lecturer in Classical Humanities at the Paris-Nanterre University, Hélène Grelier contributes to the governance of the enterprise and helps to develop the pedagogical resources, especially when they are connected with the societal impact of Artificial Intelligence.

Chief Software Officer

Simon Collet

Engineer graduated of Ecole Centrale de Lyon, doctor in theoretical computer science (specialist in algorithmic theory of games) and Associate Professor in mathematics, Simon Collet turned to teaching in high school, in the section “digital and data processing sciences”. After two years of teaching, he joined Learning Robots to take charge of all software development and educational tools around AlphaAI.

Head of Supply Chain / Customer Management

Mohamed Rabhi

Holder of a degree in Economic and Social Administration acquired at Panthéon Assas University, and currently alternating in the 1st year of MBA “Purchasing and Supply Chain” at ESG, Mohamed Rabhi joined Learning Robots in September 2023. Personally in charge from receiving and processing orders, he contributes to the assembly and testing of robots before shipping products to customers.

Research, pedagogy, education

Marie Martin

As a school teacher for 15 years, Marie Martin has experimented with the introduction of digital technology in general and robotics in her classroom practices. Currently, she acts as a digital pedagogical advisor for the Essonne department and she is also following the master 2 in “Sciences of learning” at the Interdisciplinary Research Center of Paris. She joined Learning Robots this year in order to put her experience at the service of the development of educational tools for elementary schools.

Head of Supply Chain / Procurement

Olivier Defiez

Holder of a degree in Economics and Management acquired at the University of Evry Val d’Essonne, and currently working in the 1st year of an MBA “Purchasing and Supply Chain” at ESG, Olivier Defiez joined Learning Robots in September 2023. Personally in charge of inventory and supply management, he contributes to the assembly and testing of robots before shipping to customers.

LEARNING ROBOTS

Learning Robots’ mission is to demonstrate to all audiences how artificial intelligence and neural networks work: from initiation to manipulation, from elementary school to vocational training and high school programming.

Being inspired by neuroscience, artificial intelligence can also teach us a lot about our own learnings. Through the solutions offered by Learning Robots, the younger generation will become positive and engaged players in the AI revolution.
